What are Liquid Applied Systems?
This is a system whereby a specialist cold liquid is applied to a roof surface to prevent the penetration of water into the building structure from the roof area. The liquid applied system effectively forms a seamless and fully bonded barrier waterproofing the entire area when dried. The fabulous thing about this system is it is suited to all types of roof, including flat, pitched, and domed, but can also be used inside for basement tanking, damp proofing and use in wet rooms.
How is Liquid Roofing Applied?
The process of applying the liquid roofing is done quite simply using a commercial ‘roller’ much like the type you would use on a domestic house decoration. The liquid is brought on site and then applied by our qualified team of roofers, with the liquid curing after a number of hours to form a rubber-like, elastometric rubber membrane that has the ability to stretch and then contract back to its original form with no loss of integrity.
What are the benefits of Liquid Roofing?
Cost Effective – Because of the way that this type of roofing is applied, it is very cost effective, sometimes costing up to 70% less than traditional roof fitting.
Flexible – This method can be used on flat, domed and pitched roofs and on most surfaces including concrete, felt, asphalt and bitumen.
Retrofitting – Because it can encapsulate most existing roofing, it is easy to retrofit on existing roofs that are starting to lose integrity.
Performance – The liquid is a real advance in technology and is a tremendously high performing option, with guarantees of between 20 – 30 years depending on the coating system used.
Safety – Because there are no ‘hot works’ being employed, it is a much safer way to work, both for our highly trained team but also for the inhabitants of the building and nearby pedestrians.
Encapsulation – When dealing with Asbestos roofs that are particularly difficult or costly to remove, liquid applied roofing delivers complete and safe encapsulation.
Choice – You can get a wide variety of colours when using liquid roofing and therefore it offers a range of options in terms of external aesthetics that you can’t get with other treatments.
What are the drawbacks of liquid applied roofing?
One of the biggest problems that occur with this type of treatment is poor fitting. The Skyline team is fully qualified in the application and only with this training and accreditation are we able to offer the manufacturers guarantee giving you peace of mind that the major drawback is nullified. The other key drawback is that there are quite specific weather conditions required to apply the system and therefore it can mean that dates sometimes have to be moved because of mother nature.
